Dixville Notch Kicks Off U.S. Presidential Voting with Tie Between Harris and Trump

Dixville Notch, a small town in New Hampshire, has marked the beginning of the presidential voting in the United States with a tie between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, with each receiving three votes.

Dixville Notch, is an unincorporated community in the state of New Hampshire, has become a point of interest as it kicked off voting for the U.S. presidential election. In a tradition dating back to 1960, the town opened and closed its polls just after midnight, reporting a tie between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, both receiving three votes each.

Located in the far north of New Hampshire, near the Canadian border, Dixville Notch has a very small population that allowed only four Republican voters and two unaffiliated voters to cast their ballots this time. Once the polls close, votes are counted, and results are announced before anywhere else in the country.

Dixville Notch has not been alone in this midnight voting tradition; nearby towns like Millsfield and Hart’s Location have practiced it, although not continuously, and will not do so this year. In previous editions, the town has shown a preference for Democratic candidates.

This time, voters also decided in the competitive race for governor, where former Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte is facing Democrat Joyce Craig, former mayor of Manchester, to succeed outgoing Republican Governor Chris Sununu.
