FBI Investigates Bomb Threats at Voting Centers Linked to Russian Emails and Denounces False Videos

The FBI has warned of bomb threats at voting centers across several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian sources; however, none have been deemed credible. Additionally, the agency reported the misuse of its name in false videos spreading misleading narratives about the elections, emphasizing the importance of protecting electoral integrity.

The FBI has issued a warning regarding bomb threats targeting voting centers in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains. However, none of these threats have been deemed credible.

This morning, authorities in Georgia temporarily evacuated two polling places in Fulton County due to bomb threats, which Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger stated were traced back to Russia. The threats, ultimately found to be unfounded, led to a suspension of voting activities for about 30 minutes, impacting the electoral process in this key battleground state.

In addition, the FBI released a statement addressing the misuse of its name and badge in two incidents aimed at promoting misleading narratives surrounding the elections. In the first case, a false video was circulated, purporting to be a terrorism advisory issued by the FBI. This video erroneously claimed that the agency recommended Americans to “vote remotely” due to a heightened terror threat at polling locations. The FBI clarified that this clip is not authentic and does not accurately reflect the current threat environment or security measures in place at voting sites.

A second video was also identified, featuring a forged press release from the FBI, which alleged that the management of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona had manipulated inmate voting and colluded with a political party. Like the first video, this information is false and does not represent the truth.

Ensuring electoral integrity remains a top priority for the FBI, which will continue to work closely with state and local authorities to respond to any election-related threats and protect communities as Americans exercise their right to vote. Attempts to deceive the public with false content regarding threat assessments and FBI activities seek to undermine the democratic process and erode trust in the electoral system.
